Family Gathering
My children came for Christmas;
Three sons, three daughters, their wives
And husbands, their children; my four
Grandsons and one granddaughter.
Sitting at a long table we ate their favorite foods;
Spaghetti, chili, roasted vegetables, baked
Chicken, cheese cake and lemon pies and more.
On the kitchen table the games appeared from the piles of suitcases. My grandson beat his uncle at chess. In the
Living room of the lodge movies saved on CDs played
Everyday for the whole week. They didn’t seem
Much different than they were at the last family
Gathering.
But they were different. As they packed their
Lap-top computers and digital cameras and left on planes for Shanghai, the west coast, the east coast and the
Middle East I return to my solitude and take comfort
in knowing they participate fully in the
interconnectedness of the world .
My genes are moving across the globe making the
World a better place.
